MICHAEL ABUAH’S TAKE ON SECURITY OFF-CAMPUS SECURITY [UPDATED]

OFF CAMPUS LIVES MATTER; MICHAEL ABUAH’S TAKE ON SECURITY

 ðŸ“‹ DATE:  08/06/2021

We come to the University with the sole aim of developing our various potentials of growing up as citizens that will someday take charge of the affairs of our nation.

But in KNUST countless students have to deal with other troubles in addition to trying to grow themselves. Campus security in KNUST is top great but same cannot be said for Off Campus.

There are no security posts, check points or even points of contacts when students are harmed. Yet still the SRC makes budget allocations for Security off campus.

To understand this plight we must go back to the Genesis. It is without unequivocal doubt that the school has an obligation to all its students. Ideally students need to be accommodated on campus but the logistics for this can only give a little above 15% out of a little above 70,000 students accommodation on campus.

This implies a huge chunk of students have to move outside the school to secure accommodation.

Aside facing the exorbitant hostel prices they are charged with they also have to deal with the terrible state of Security off Campus.

The question then becomes who is to fix this ?

Who is responsible for Student Safety Off campus?

We must all make a concession that the security tips and street lights are not enough to solve the problem.

The school has a direct obligation to make sure all Students are safe and can go about their normal academic duties.

The SRC should also be at the front spearheading students safety but all we see are budget allocations and nothing concrete being done.

All Lives of Students Matter whether On Campus or Off Campus. We need to start addressing this issue with the urgency it deserves and not the half baked solutions we keep getting.

I’m Michael Abuah and I believe Off Campus Lives Matter.

THE TRUE STATE OF SECURITY: MICHAEL ABUAH CALLS ON OFORIKROM MCE

On 29th June, 2021, Master Michael Abuah together with his running mate Reginald Amo Yeboah paid a working visit to the MCE of Oforikrom, Hon. Gloria Tammany Gambrah at her office in Oforikrom. The MCE doubles as the Head of the Security council of the Oforikrom Municipal where KNUST and its environs fall under.

This particular meeting was in line with Michael Abuah’s vision of improving security situation around campus when elected SRC President through the support from the Office of Dean of students and other leaders of the University to ensure safety of all students, most especially students residing in areas like Ayeduase, Kotei, Bomso, Kentinkrono and Ahinsan.

Michael Abuah and his abled running mate painted an accurate situation with regards to security off campus, highlighting on the numerous security threats including robbery attacks, attempted rape etc. that students face.

Discussions around the possible solutions to address these challenges were fruitfully held.

Michael Abuah was also specially interested in the Municipal’s response to the recent floods in the aforementioned areas due to dilapidated roads and poor drainage.

In response, the MCE commended the former SCISA President and his Vice Presidential candidate for prioritizing the security of students and taking steps to seek answers. She further promised to visit the areas and ensure a quick and lasting solution to the issues.

Scheduled Zoom Meeting with students of KNUST

Upon request by the duo, she promised to be present for a scheduled zoom meeting to engage students on how best we can enhance their safety off campus.

In conclusion, she maintained security has become a shared responsibility and urged students to always act carefully and consciously at all times.

I’m Michael Abuah and I believe Off Campus Lives Matter.
